Attending a free concert in Bangkok

A FREE CONCERT IN BANGKOK

Before my train ride to Chiang Mai, I had a few hours to kill. I left my bag in the hostel to wander around aimlessly in the Siam area. I didn’t really do much just go into shops to see what was on sale1. After awhile, I saw a massive group of people gathering in a semi-hidden amphitheatre2. There was a buzz in the air. Having no clue what was going on, I headed there too3. I sat down and tried to find someone that could speak English to help me understand why we were all gathering4.

Eventually, I found someone. He explained that one of Thailand’s biggest artists had made a cryptic post a few hours earlier. She had mentioned that something would be happening here. No one knew what was going on but people just showed up. Cool… I had more time to kill before the train. While waiting, I got a special gift from the promoters – a heart shaped balloon and some other small items5.

Nothing happened for quite some time and I started to get a bit bored. There was only so much the Thai guy could discuss the MCU. Without me being conciously aware, a buzz began to fill the amphitheatre. People were getting more excited and there was an audible chatter.

Suddenly, there was a flash of light and screams filled the air6. Ink appeared in the amphitheatre and began to sing. It was super cool. She performed a free concert for everyone there7. It started to get really cramped as more people heard the fanfare and decided to check it out. Thankfully, I had enough space and was right in front. It was an awesome experience. I hadn’t known about her beforehand but definitely became a fan afterwards8 : )

After the concert, I bid adieu to my Thai friend and headed to my hostel to pick up my bags. Then, I was off to the train station.

  1. Not that I could afford anything there : ( ↩︎
  2. Always head towards the noise or people, there is almost always something cool happening : ) ↩︎
  3. Why? Because I like things ↩︎
  4. I hoped it was a cult meeting, joining (read: starting) one has been a bucket-list item of mine. ↩︎
  5. I did end up giving away the balloon but kept a small memento ↩︎
  6. Everyone looked at me, weirdly enough ↩︎
  7. She was promoting a her new music festival – it looked pretty cool ↩︎
  8. I would recognise her songs when I went to 7/11 and would always sing along ↩︎
